A lot of us won’t be going home for the holidays like we usually would this time of year, for obvious reasons. For some of us, it will be the first holiday season away from family and friends and for others it will be the longest time we’ve spent in the UAE without traveling overseas. So, we put together a list of 3 ways to stay sane in our ‘new normal’ and still enjoy the festive season and everything the UAE has to offer in the winter!
We’re foodies, so this season is all about indulgent treats, decadent lunches & dinners, and those sugar-filled toffee, pumpkin spice, cream, frappe-latte concoctions (we’re already missing the PSL at Starbucks). There is no shortage of delicious food in the UAE, from all over the world, so you are sure to find a taste of home. There are also a tonne of Thanksgiving & Christmas themed brunches (as well as your normal weekly brunches) in the UAE with food & decoration that will transport you home for the afternoon. If you’re looking for all the festive bells and whistles then check out Atlantis’ Christmas brunch (book well in advance as spaces go fast!). If you don’t celebrate or fancy a more cultural food experience head over to Naif in Deira and indulge in a variety of different delicious foods from hole-in-the-wall restaurants at a fraction of the cost!
Exercising is a great way to balance out your indulgent treats and also keep your mental health in check! It’s been a tough year for everyone and not being able to travel home is just another thing to add to the list. Getting up from your sofa or office chair and doing 30 minutes of exercise a day can make a world of difference to your mood and outlook – not to mention your health. Struggling to find motivation? Enroll for free in the Dubai 30X30 challenge! It’ll help keep you on track and help you stay motivated to get out and about in the beautiful UAE winter weather!
Okay, so you’re probably not traveling this year but that doesn’t mean you have to stay inside! There are lots of things to do and see in the UAE and it’s the perfect temperature to make the most of it. There is something unique in every Emirate so why not take a road trip (following all safety precautions & regulations of course) or do a staycation in a different Emirate? Or you could ride the world’s longest zip line in Ras Al Khaimah, visit the Louvre in Abu Dhabi, snorkel in Fujairah, camp in the desert, visit the abandoned plane in Umm al Quwain, check out the rain room & other art exhibits in Sharjah, Kayak in Hatta, or simply taking a trip to one of the many beautiful beaches we’re lucky to have throughout the UAE!
